Introduced in 2019, the All-Star Mile has already established itself as one of the biggest and most exciting dates in the horse racing season. It serves as a fitting end to the Melbourne Autumn Racing Carnival, taking place the weekend after Super Saturday, in March.
Truly a race like no other, fans get to choose which horses line up for the All-Star Mile. Ten horses from around the world are selected via public vote, with five slots reserved for wildcard entry.
The quirks of this special-conditions 1600m race don’t stop there: the All-Star Mile’s location also rotates each year between Melbourne’s three main racecourses.
With a mouthwatering $5 million purse up for grabs, the All-Star Mile is not only one of Australia’s most lucrative races, but also the richest mile-long race in the world. Mystic Journey, Regal Power, Mugatoo and Zaaki are the first four winners to etch their names in the event’s short history.

Blue Diamond Stakes Day takes place in February, and is Caulfield’s key meeting during the autumn season. There are eight major races on the card, with the Group 1 Futurity Stakes and Oakleigh Plate setting the scene for the widely anticipated Blue Diamond Stakes.
The Autumn Carnival’s showpiece race for juveniles, the Blue Diamond Stakes brings together Australia’s best two-year-old gallopers for a 1200m dash at sets weights across the Caulfield turf. There’s $1.5 million on the line, making this Victoria’s richest race for two-year-olds.
Inaugurated in 1971, the Blue Diamond Stakes has already woven a rich history with a star-studded list of champions that includes legendary names like Sepoy, Alinghi and Manikato.
Due to the track reconstruction at Caulfield, the 2023 race is at Sandown with the race returning to Caulfield in 2024.

Previously held on the same day as the Newmarket Handicap, the Australian Cup will be held after the All-Star Mile. Traditionally run at Flemington over the Labour Day long weekend, Racing Victoria moved the race after owners and trainers asked for the Group 1 race to be deferred. First run back in 1863, the Australia Cup has undergone numerous distance reductions and now sits at 2000m. Three-year-old gallopers take to the track under weight-for-age conditions with $3 million in prize money on the line. During its rich history, the Australian Cup has witnessed many memorable wins, with notable champions including Bonecrusher in 1987 and Dandy Andy in 2021.
